"As many of you know, the domaine where I sourced the fruit for the Beaune 1er cru Cent Vignes was sold in 2020 and the new owner decided to keep all the fruit. I am delighted to have found another Beaune 1er cru to replace it. The Avaux vineyard is located on the Pommard side of Beaune. Domaine Newman (where I worked for 13 years) owned a parcel of Clos des Avaux so I know the area well. The wine … more

Tasmania is renowned as Australia’s home of great sparkling wines. The fruit used in this Cuvée is grown on selected, cool climate vineyards across Tasmania.
Honeysuckle and citrus scents are immediately apparent with slight aromas of nougat, roasted nuts and a sniff of strawberry from the Pinot Noir. Delicate fruits and creaminess wash through the mouth leaving a lingering finish of citrus and nougat.
Producer notes "Reminiscent of our wines in the early years, a true Georgia's Paddock style of raspberry with red earth notes and soft integrated tannins. While this vintage initially appears a little closed, given a few minutes, opens up to a brilliant red fruit and spicy nose. Juicy strawberries and fresh raspberry fill a generous palate with great length. Delicious now but easily cellared for those with patience. High grade cork sealed, 15.0% alcohol"

A labour of love founded by Justin Neufeld, a winemaker for Gilbert Cellars, it is named for himself, his wife Brooke, and his grandfather. The winery was founded as a way for Justin to experiment with different grapes from the Yakima region and explore the terroir of the region through the fruit. Justin says that this lets him maintain the “uniqueness … more

"Thankfully Jean Foillard doesn't live in Burgundy. I say that because if he transported his vineyard holdings, metier and extraordinary talent to the Côte de Nuits then there is no chance that you would be reading about him in these pages. His wine would be as exclusive and expensive as Domaine Leroy or Georges Roumier. It is only because Beaujolais has been much maligned by the 'nouveau' phenomenon, poor quality marketing and oceans of basic quality wines that the regions … more

From young gun on the rise, and self-proclaimed happy winemaker - Jean-Paul - comes this ultra cool Shiraz. Grown at 600m altitude on cooling granitic soils, these grapes see a long, slow maceration before wild ferment and age in old oak. A fantastic example of how classy cool climate Aussie Shiraz can be. Flavours of blueberries and brambles and ahint of allspice.

One of the best things about working in a small business, is making relationships with people like Jean-Paul. His charming and effusive energy is palpable in the wines he makes, like this Nebbiolo. Bouncing out of the glass with freshness, expect notes of red cherry, tart cranberry and aniseed, with filigree-fine tannins and a savoury finish.

** White Wine of the Year - Gamberro Rosso 2019.**
Capo Martino was the original name of this 7.5 hectare vineyard in Ruttars, acquired in 1991. The wine, a field blend, is mostly Friulano with small amounts of Ribolla, Malvasia and Picolit, fermented and aged in 750l Slavonian oak for 12-16 months. Golden yellow, the nose is intense with ripe fruit of apple and banana with hazelnuts, dried flowers and vanilla; the palate full, well balanced and persistent.
