Barbeito is in its infancy by Madeira standards, having started in the 1940s. Since the mid-90s, their focus has been on wines that are vinous and moreish, preserving freshness and vibrancy above all else. They are drier and paler in colour than what you might expect from a Madeira - they don't add caramel to darken, and the retain as much natural acidity to keep the wines light and moreish.

"The idiosyncratic, biodynamic and greatly admired Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir, aged in French Allier barriques for 18 months, is a defining Victorian pinot noir. Uplifting and memorable, this multi-layered and nuanced wine reflects a superb obsession, based on a low-cropping, four-hectare vineyard site at Leongatha. This wine is long in flavour, powerful & complex. It can be cellared for many years.

An aperitif based on rhubarb, citrus and flowers. A gentle bitterness, predominantly from gentian and barberry, and a judicious use of sugar, creates a well balanced pre dinner drink. Its carmine colour comes from the rhubarb and blood orange in the recipe, but also from the cochineal ‘Say it three times before dinner, what could go wrong’

"When life gives you yuzu..." make a Yuzucello spritz - at least that's what the gang at Beechworth Bitters tells us. This humbly priced Sangiovese is the surprise dark horse that never stops going. Rarely does it drop out of position as our number one bestseller, and when it does, its usually not for long. It's plump and generously fruited, with enough lipsmacking acidity to bring people back to it time and time again. Plus, at well under $20 - you'd be a fool not to grab two!!

Sparkling wine obtained from a selection of Glera grapes and processed according to the Charmat method. This wine is the epitome of Prosecco DOCG, where a delicate bouquet accompanies the harmony of its elegant body. The freshness and fragrance of this wine, together with a fine and persistent perlage, make it ideal for any occasion.
We can hardly believe how well priced this Pinot is, a rare beast in the ever more expensive region of Gippsland. Classic Gippsland character, bright fruit that evokes raspberries and ripe cherry tomatoes, with a touch of leafy stemminess on the finish that makes this wine very, very drinkable.
