Barbeito is in its infancy by Madeira standards, having started in the 1940s. Since the mid-90s, their focus has been on wines that are vinous and moreish, preserving freshness and vibrancy above all else. They are drier and paler in colour than what you might expect from a Madeira - they don't add caramel to darken, and the retain as much natural acidity to keep the wines light and moreish.

The Bico Amarelo is all crisp and crunch, as good vinho verde should be. A blend of Alvarinho (aka Albarino), Loureiro and Avesso, expect fragrant white florals up front, and cucumber water freshness. In the glass, it will open to reveal pretty tropical scents of guava and fresh pineapple and a deliciously creamy finish that makes this a wonderfully versatile wine to pair with food.

Very fine and beautifully balanced, the 2012 Guimaraens combines the depth and richness of Quinta do Panascal with the clearly delineated fruit and heady scented quality of the Pinhão Valley.
"The 2012 Fonseca Guimaraens explodes from the glass with black plums mixed with cassis, fresh fig and prune with a touch of warm - all very in keeping with the Fonseca style (a bit unruly but a lot of boisterous fun!) The palate is sweet on the entry with fresh … more

Made predominantly from Tinta Negra Mole--with 10% Malvasia in this case-- Henriques & Henriques 3 Year Old blends are produced in an estufa process specifically set up for these wines. They are then aged in oak casks for 3 years prior to bottling. Henriques' Full Rich is a dark, luscious and fragrant sweet wine with aromas of dried fruit and caramel. Full-bodied and very fruity, it should be enjoyed as a dessert wine, with chocolate and fruit-based courses.

Decanter Magazine: Favourite Fortified Wine, 1998 Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (one of three). "Madeira is having a hard time, especially after a difficult vintage in 1998. Henriques & Henriques produce an outstanding range of 10-year-old Madeiras, but their 15-year-old Malmsey, with its scented, high-toned aromas and wonderfully sinewy flavors, is quintessential and better than many a vintage wine. It is also a bargain."

This mindbogglingly complex Malvasia (weighting in at 20.45 alc/vol and just over 100 grams of residual sugar, balanced by delicious mouth-watering acidity) has been matured using the traditional Canteiro method in Henriques' purpose built lodges in Camara de Lobos. The wines are cask-aged in lodge attics, against south-facing windows, and at 20 years maturation thus, represents the best of Vinhos de Canteiro. This extraordinary wine is redolent of dried Turkish black figs and toffee, with penetrating citrus oils, toasted nuts and … more

Despite often being made in a rough and rustic style, this Touriga dominant blend is all pink lady apples, fragrant rose petals and graphite. Soft and shapely, there's a lovely, deep core of fruit that wraps around tongue-tingling acidity and an undeniably moreish finish.
A wine of high quality, made by blending wines of different harvests to achieve the array of sensory qualities that are typical of these aged tawny Port wines. These wines have each matured in oak casks for varied periods of time, with the average age of all the wines in the blend defining the age on the label. The resulting blend expresses the characteristics given by the ageing in wood.
Reserve Ruby Port is a step up in quality from standard Ruby Port, exhibiting deeper color and greater aromatic complexity as it is aged a bit longer before bottling - in this case 4-6 years.
It's made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca & Tinta Roriz.
Intense garnet colour with violet hints. Elegant and charming nose, dominated by the strength of red fruits reminding us of jams. In the mouth, it is balanced, intense and well structured; standing-out is the excellence … more
Pronounced youthful aromas of lime, bay leaf & citrus, this vinho verde lives up to the name. Lovely minerality and delicate stone fruits such as white peach and nectarine are evident. The palate has great underlying, acidity, sesty, yet ripe round notes of white peach, lime zest and shale.
