** White Wine of the Year - Gamberro Rosso 2019.**
Capo Martino was the original name of this 7.5 hectare vineyard in Ruttars, acquired in 1991. The wine, a field blend, is mostly Friulano with small amounts of Ribolla, Malvasia and Picolit, fermented and aged in 750l Slavonian oak for 12-16 months. Golden yellow, the nose is intense with ripe fruit of apple and banana with hazelnuts, dried flowers and vanilla; the palate full, well balanced and persistent.

"In August 2012 we planted Australia's first Assyrtiko at our Lodge Hill Vineyard, a special and unique site treasured by my family and suited to this variety. Our Assyrtiko journey has been fascinating and has enabled us to produce a wine which, I believe, is a true expression of the variety. I hope you find the flavours as interesting as I did in 2006." 'Florita’ is Spanish for ‘little flower’. In 1946 wine merchant Leo Buring purchased land in Watervale and planted sherry varieties including Palamino, which were later replaced by Riesling in 1962. Jim Barry Wines purchased this vineyard in 1986.
First released in 2004, this micro-batch Riesling is made from grapes hand-selected from individual rows. An elegant and balanced wine with intense floral aromas and classic citrus overtones. A magnificent benchmark dry Riesling to be enjoyed now or with careful cellaring for … more

First released as the 'Florita Riesling' in 2004 by Jim Barry Wines, this micro-batch Riesling is made from grapes hand-selected from individual rows. Its best fruit comes from vines planted in shallow loamy soils and the vineyard has good air-drainage which alleviates the risk of frost. Aromas of freshly cut lime, with fleshy lemon and grapefruit juice. Intense focus and purity, with a glass rod like structure through the palate. All framed in florals and fresh lime juice. The Spring Farm block showed immediate promise for Riesling, with its windswept hills at high altitudes and tiny micro-climate pockets with bountiful sunshine to warm the cool slopes. Released after 10 years in the cellar, it's drinking beautifully now showing all the best characters of aged Aussie Riesling - candied lime peel, waxy lily petal florals, fresh sourdough & butter.

"Made from the two red grape varieties I think the Clare Valley does best. I love a wine where it takes me only a couple of seconds to form an opinion. This was love at first sight, or sip. Red and black berries, mint and leaf, a violet perfume, tobacco and all that, but it's the dense, yet light palate that pulls you in. It's packed with tannin, feels fine in the acid department, has this inky ferrous thing going … more

The origins of ‘The McRae Wood’ are closely linked to the family’s flagship Shiraz, ‘The Armagh’. Following its creation in 1985 and subsequent success, the winery was unable to meet demand for ‘The Armagh’. Unwilling to compromise on quality to meet this need, Peter and his brothers decided to create a new wine in 1992, utilising fruit that was downgraded from the Armagh vineyard as well as superior parcels from the family’s other vineyards around the Clare Valley.

"Pale golden yellow. Candied apricot, clove, nut oil and a touch of smoky botrytis on the nose. Creamy, tropical fruit flavors are nicely accented by salty minerality. This impressively rich auslese boasts a compelling finish animated by lemon curd and slate."

"The 2012 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule (AP #16 13) reveals a concentrated bouquet of highly delicate Riesling berry aromas along with grapefruit flavors. Rich and concentrated, but with lots of finesse, transparency and elegance on the palate, this noble sweet Auslese is fresh, delicate and very stimulating." 96 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
"This very concentrated and super-elegant riesling Auslese is still tightly-wound. However, it already has a very wide spectrum of subtle yellow fruit and wild flower aromas. Terrific structure behind the rich, but still medium-bodied palate. Incredibly long, slatey finish with staggering freshness that pulls you back for more of this Mosel masterpiece. Drinkable now, but best from 2025." 97 points, Stuart Pigott, jamessuckling.com
"The 2023 Riesling Graacher Himmelreich Auslese, made virtually without botrytis from fully ripe grapes, offers a shy tone of stone and yeast. The palate features Mirabelle jelly with lovely overtones of lemon balm and fern, wonderfully cut by freshness with a pithy, zesty edge of lime and mainly pale lemon. The finish resembles lemon and yellow plum sorbet, exquisitely fresh and palate-cleansing, yet with exquisite sweetness. Incredibly fine, slender and so balanced." 96 points, Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous
"A very great Mosel Auslese with the combination of enormous concentration, exotic ripeness and vibrancy that we expect from the very top producers of this style. What a fantastic interplay of grape sweetness and aromatic richness with an underlying slatey acidity that makes this so pure and straight. Drink or hold." 98 points, Stuart Pigott, jamessuckling.com
