95% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino, this Chianti Classico is a great and affordable example of the genre. Its youthful charcters are juicy and crunchy red fruits, floral characters (a touch of rosehip tea?), darke cherries and a touch of peppery spice. It's a fruit-driven wine with no oak to speak of (although a little of it was aged in older oak vats prior to bottleing), and a great introduction to the Sangiovese variety and the Chianti style.

The estate is home to the world-class wine that started the Super Tuscan movement - Sassicaia.
"The wine was created for two reasons: first of all, the desire to see what we could accomplish with Merlot, a grape that we had never used before; second, the desire to offer the consumer a wine which could be appreciated at a younger age compared to our veteran Sassicaia." - Nicolo Incisa, Director of Tenuta San Guido

Winery Notes "Made from 100% sangiovese grapes coming from different vineyards located on the south-east/west side of Montalcino, at altitudes varying from 250 to 400 m MSL. The southeast soils are made up of sandy loam, with limestone plates and plenty of heavy stone. The wine ages for several months in French and Slavonian oak barrels, and in bottle. Deep ruby red in colour with violet highlights. Intensely fruity and fresh with aroma of cherry, plum and sour cherry. Smooth … more
"The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baròncole (a certified organic wine) shows bright fruit with summer cherry and redcurrant. It offers textural heft and weight. Its Riserva status (with extended aging) is well noted. With time in the glass, it unfolds to leather, potting soil and crushed stone. This vintage does however show a more accessible personality overall (and a powerful 15% alcohol content)." 94, Monica Larner - Wine Advocate

This is 90% Sangiovese with 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino, aged in tonneaux and barriques for twelve months. An intense ruby-red colour with violet reflections, the fruity aroma is atypical of Sangiovese with notes of cherry and wild berries. Harmonious, well-structured and lightly tannic, it is a wine that can easily mature for a period ranging from four to eight years.

'The 2021 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Bright and punchy, with terrific resonance, this wine shows just how compelling the vintage is. Readers will find a Chianti Classico of dynamic energy and volume. Dark red cherry, purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and a gentle kiss of French oak build into the sumptuous, vibrant finish. Superb. The 2021 was aged in 500-liter barrels (5-6% new) for 14 months and is a blend of fruit from Greve, Gaiole and Radda.' ANTONIO GALLONI, … more

One of our favourite producers in Chianti - 100% organically-grown Sangiovese, the Poggerino house style shows more fruit emphasis, but with power, weight & complexity.
'The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Bugialla is a potent, brooding wine. Macerated dark cherry, licorice, leather, tobacco and smoke all flesh out over time. The 2020 saw a whopping 50 days on the skins, with malolactic fermentation in cement and then two years in 20-25hL Slavonian oak casks. There is a bit of new oak … more

'The 2022 Chianti Classico is a pretty rich wine for Il Poggerino. It shows the heat and dryness of the year in its intense dark red fruit. Even so, Piero Lanza has done a terrific job of avoiding the hard tannins that penalize other wines. This plush, open-knit Chianti Classico will drink well right out … more

An affordable and classic Sangiovese? We'll take two! The Monte Antico hits all the hallmarks, think red currants, tart cherries, wood smoke and dried rosemary. Generosity of fruit upfront makes way for moreish structure and a lip-smacking finish that far outweighs the price.

"The 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a very beautiful wine, but also quite a departure from the style that made it famous years ago. Readers will find an especially polished Guado al Tasso, a wine that emphasizes finesse more than power. Silky tannins wrap around a core of black cherry fruit, licorice, spice, mocha and new leather. Bright, saline undertones extend the exquisite finish. There's more Cabernet Franc in … more
