Ernie Loosen is a legend of the industry a leading light for quality in the Mosel, former Decanter Man of the Year and a fun guy to eat dinner with. Even his entry level wines are great quality.
This is a great starter to a meal or nice paired with seafood.
The "Dr. L" is fermented and matured in stainless steel. It offers a very attractive and direct nose of pear, spices and herbs, leaving an elegantly mineral and fruity … more
The Grosses Gewächs Réserve wines are selectively harvested from the finest parcels of very old, ungrafted vines. They are naturally fermented in the same way as the GGs but stay for 24 months on the full lees in traditional Fuder casks. They are then held in bottle for a further 24 months before release. This extended maturation brings an extra dimension of finesse and balance to our wines. Erdener Prälat is perhaps the greatest vineyard in the Mosel region. It … more

This dry Riesling is a limited-production "great growth" from a parcel of extremely old vines in Erdener Treppchen that lies directly above Erdener Prälat. The fruit comes from vines aged 100+ years, growing on red Devonian slate. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in traditional 1,000-litre Fuder casks; matured on full lees for 12 months.

The "Sundial of Wehlen" is one of the greatest vineyards in the Middle Mosel. The soil is almost nothing but broken shards of blue Devonian slate, which gives a lively minerality to the wines. Citrus and white peach flavours predominate when the wines are young, turning to a pure expression of the mineral soil as they age. 100% Riesling from vines of more than 100 years of age. Fermented with indigenous yeast in a 3,000-litre, neutral oak, cask; matured on … more

This precipitously steep, rocky vineyard consistently yields some of the most elegant and sophisticated white wines in the world. Wehlener Sonnenuhr (pronounced VAY-len-er ZON-en-ooer) is rated "First Growth" (Erste Lage) in the 1868 Prussian classification of the Mosel, and "Great First-Class" in the Wine Atlas of Germany by Hugh Johnson & Stuart Pigott (1995). The mineral-rich, blue Devonian slate soil of the "sundial" vineyard produces quintessential Mosel Riesling: delicate and refined, with racy minerality.

The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen assumed ownership in 1988, he realised that he had vines in some of Germany's best-rated vineyards. To maximise the potential of those vines, he dramatically crop size, uses only organic fertilisation, insists on very strict fruit selection, and employs gentle cellar practices with a minimum of handling. … more
