Crawford River 'Beta' Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2014 [Museum Release in 2023]

Released from the Crawford River Cellar in December 2023.

"Screwcap. Cellaring the 2014 Beta required a slight leap of faith at the time however we suspected this vintage would go the distance given the purity from this cool vintage. This wine has aged superbly. The nutty spectrum we often see is there, together with an element of green, brined olive. A wonderful umami quality is seen throughout, with aged lees characters a delicious feature. The structure and texture of the palate is creamy and well defined, with natural acidity aiding its' persistence and remarkable freshness for its' age.

A blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Semillon fruit. The hand picked fruit was processed by variety and clone, 100% whole-bunch pressed and naturally settled (no enzyme) overnight before being racked to barrel and fermented with naturally occurring yeasts. Most of these barrels are old wood (13 yrs plus), with a small percentage being 1-3 years old 'cigar barrels'. The cigar barrels are longer and have a smaller bilge than a standard barrique, with a capacity of 265L which gives a larger ratio of wine/lees contact area and negates the need for Batonage." - Belinda Thomson, Winemaker.
