Hutton Vale Farm was first established in 1843 by John Howard Angas, and now managed by the current custodians, seventh-generation Stuart and Caitlin Angas. Situated next door to the Mt Edelstone Vineyard that was planted by Ronald Angas, this has to be one of the most historic properties/wineries in Australia.
The 'old' block that comprises this wine, was planted in the 1960s with cuttings taken from the nearby Mt Edelstone vineyard.

Winery Notes "The tiny bunches harvested in 2022 delivered an exceptional depth of flavour and colour. The resulting wine is certainly bolder than previous releases and pours inky black in a display of power. The nose is almost northern Barossa, with coffee and chocolate notes waltzing with blackberry and blueberry. The palate is rich and textural, with cooler elements of spice and licks of cornichon adding elegance and restraint. The nose is almost northern Barossa, with coffee and chocolate notes … more

"An incredibly intense and distinctive nose signals a cool harvest, with tobacco leaf and
tamarind combining with celeriac and white pepper to create a beguiling, intriguing and
enticing aroma. The texture is equally titilating, with assertive tannin and spice coiling
fluently with dark cherry, orange rind and Campari like floral. Ilt evokes recollections of
Barolo and Cornas, two of my favourite regions in the world, of course with our own
unique Eden Valley twist. A wine that changed gears overnight … more

Pure Eden is a single site wine, made from an Eden Valley vineyard planted by Charles Angas in the 1890s. Producer Notes - "The Naimanya vineyard sits high in the tiny sub-region of Flaxman's Valley on soils of sandy loam, gravel and quartz over clay. At 520m elevation it is amongst the highest Shiraz vineyards in South Australia. Fair winter rains and a cool summer gave us a healthy crop of excellent quality. Hand picked on the 7th April, 70% destemmed, 30% whole bunch, pressed to French oak (10% new, Saint Martin), matured for 20 months in barrel. 1940 bottles … more

Aged white wine is generally overlooked in this country but there is really no excuse for not having experienced old riesling, particularly as there are a few producers who regularly have a museum release as well as their new vintage.
We produce a lot of good Riesling in this Country and there are a decent half dozen or so exceptional producers, making wines with the purity of fruit and fine acid structure that offers the potential to age 10 or … more

A classic example of Eden Valley Riesling from a benchmark producer. Showing consistently delicious wines, the nose on this wine sings sweetly of lime blossom and citrus pith, while the palate gives us more sumptuous notes of pineapple skin and dried rosemary, finishing with a talc-like minerality.

Winery Notes - "The Eden Valley sits high in the Barossa ranges, above the floor of the Barossa Valley. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty punctuated by ancient Red Gums with patches of vines hidden amongst undulating grazing land. Exposed reefs of moss-covered metamorphic rock hint at what lies beneath the soil's surface. Vines growing in this shallow rocky soil produce fine flavoured Riesling with a mineral purity that comes from vine roots pushing through cracks in submerged … more

Some of the oldest Cabernet vines in the world, and beleived to be the oldest in Australia (planted in 1858 before the famed Penfolds Block 42 Kalimna Vineyard).
A wonderful expression of Cabernet from high up on the Eden Valley.

Halliday Wine Companion "Shiraz sourced from vines planted in 1858 and the 1940s in the Eden Valley. Bright crimson in the glass with aromas of macerated satsuma plum, blackberry and blackcurrant pastille. Hints of violets, sage, licorice, bay leaf, roasting meats, panforte, salumi and earth. Full bodied with an elegant line, fine-grained tannins and plenty of drive and a sense of grace as it trails off."
