Winery Notes - "Vines with an average age of 35 years. This Meursault Premier Cru is unconventional. Its aromas are characteristic of clay-limestone soil and in particular, limestone rock subsoil. On the nose you will notice a mix of flint and pure fruit. It is sharp, light and mineral, with a saline finish."
90-93 Points. Allen Meadows, Burghound - "A vague suggestion of the exotic can be found on the aromas of white peach, acacia blossom and citrus confit. The … more

Domaine Paul Benoit et Fils Arbois Melon de d'Arbois 2018
Melon d'Arbois, the local name for Chardonnay, is a clone that has been cultivated in Jura reportedly as far back as the 10th century, thriving in the chalky limestone soils comprised largely of the marine fossil gryphées. There's a floral lilt and softness of fruit unlike clones found elsewhere, that is complemented nicely by the chalkiness found in the wines. Aromatically, expect calla lilies, white peaches and crushed mineral chalk. Sip chilled alongside a slice of the best comté you … more

Domaine Paul Pillot Bourgogne Blanc 2022
This comes mainly from a well-situated 0.6-hectare parcel of 35-year-old vines planted on a northeast-facing hillside just south of Chassagne. There is also a little Chassagne village fruit in the blend. The fruit is hand-picked, pressed and left to settle. It naturally ferments on lees for 12 months in small stainless-steel vats and older barrels. The wine is then blended and settled for a further six months in tank before bottling. This has always been a lovely drink, but today, … more

Domaine Pavelot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2021
Three parcels of Pernand, oriented to the west in En Charlemagne and a fourth at the heart of Le Charlemagne at the limit of Aloxe, oriented directly to the south. The soils vary between pure clay deposits, silty and light, and a limestone foundation resting on marl, rarely suffering from lack of water. The archetype of a grand white Burgundy. Often reserved in its youth, the texture alone suggests a grand future, silky and long with a line of minerality … more

Domaine Pavelot Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeaux 2022
Chardonnay grown at the top of the vineyard on white marl which is perfectly suited to the variety. The vineyard faces east looking across the valley towards En Charlemagne but does not lose the sun early in the evening thanks to the steep wooded hillside above.

Domaine Pavelot Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses 2021
A Grand Cru in all but name, located mid-slope, oriented toward the east with a luminosity from the first rays of morning until the dwindling rays of sunset. Small clay deposits. Always rich in limestone accompanied by an elevated level of iron, explaining the reddish tint. The coarse sandy deposits one finds here are key in lightening the soil and optimising the circulation of water. In short, a beautiful soil to work with and emblematic of a grand soil. Whatever … more

Domaine Philippe Robert Bourgogne Rouge 2022
Located in the quiet village of Couchey in the Cote de Nuits. This fourth-generation Domaine is run by father and son Philippe & Johann Robert. Traditional Burgundy, long-lived, full of colour and concentration. Whilst not owning any 1er or Grand cru vines, it does have a fine range of holdings in Marsannay & Fixin. As a side note, the Robert family is closely related to the famous Rousseau family which is based in a village over in Gevrey-Chambertin. However, this … more

Domaine Philippe Robert Marsannay Champs Perdrix 2022

Elevation is around 390 metres above sea level on thin rocky soils over almost pure limestone. Domaine Pichot L'Electron Libre 2020
L'Electron Libre made up of the best parcel from each of the domaine's ten vineyard plots. Winemaker Christophe lets it run its natural course meaning the final wine can be anywhere between bone dry to off dry, but one thing is certain - the acidity will be electrifying! The wine the ages in 100% new barrel for 8 months, though you'd be hard pressed to tell from the wine. With just 10 barrels produced, it's a shining beacon of success and … more

Domaine Pierre Boisson Bourgogne Aligoté En Buisson 2021
The domaine itself remains an enigma. It’s a very old-fashioned approach. There’s no website, no visits, no marketing. These folks consider themselves farmers, and truth be told probably spend as much time hunting in the Burgundy hills as anything else. But therein lies much of the charm, comparisons with Coche-Dury aside.
The wines across the three ‘labels’ are all made at the cellar in Meursault. No herbicide or fertiliser is used in the vineyard. Harvest and sorting are done manually. … more

Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Mon Aïeul 2016 Magnum
"Getting more than one exclamation in the notes, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de Mon Aïeul is a deep, rich yet vibrant red that offers a kaleidoscope of kirsch liqueur, garrigue, crushed flowers, Asian spices, and cured meats. It's more opulent and sexier than the 2010, fresher and purer than the 2007, has deep, full-bodied aromas and flavors, and a huge finish. It's a sensational, heavenly Châteauneuf-du-Pape that tops out my scale. This cuvée is 100% Grenache that was not destemmed … more
