“The Venenciador is the human face of Sherry in and outside of the Bodega.”
This year's poster celebrates the inimitable Paola Medina, a driving force behind the move to revitalise Sherry making and the culture of el Marco de Jerez. The image of Paola using a traditional 'Venencia' struck a chord with us as one of very few images of female Sherry maker using the tool.
The Venenciador is the person in the bodega who wields the venecia, allowing the bodega owner to taste their sherry. It is more than just one of many job titles in a bodega, representing centuries' of established culture within sherry making.
With that in mind, it gives us great pleasure to see Paola wielding hers, as if raising a sword and leading the charge to bring Sherry to the modern era.
