Massolino Sings Again
Having tasted last week with Giovanni Angeli from Massolino, we were struck by the immense consistency of the range. This release strikes a consistently impressive note, from top to bottom. The Dolcetto d’Alba was a particular stand out, their most entry-level bottling and yet the one we were still talking about two days later.

What's the RC Cru Drinking?
Our newest member of the team, Emile, has picked this Alpine Nebbiolo from the tiny cru of Carema, located just at the edge of Valle d’Aosta. He insisted we grab this one, telling us that Carema’s Nebbiolo “epitomises balance and delicacy in the variety, with high-toned perfume and firm, fine tannins that conjure up a brisk Alpine breeze across the palate.” Phwoar.

The People's Pelaverga
Scarpa’s Pelaverga is all grace and elegance, light on its feet yet full of distinct personality. Amongst the Piemontese royalty of Barolo and Barbaresco, Pelaverga is a break from tradition, offering white-pepper spice and aromatic florals. It’s lively, energetic, and it doesn’t need to sit in the cellar for an aeon to be enjoyed.

A Variety on the Brink
A rare bottling of the Salento native variety Susumaniello, a grape on the brink of extinction. It’s thought to be named for the Salentino phrase "Susu lu somariellu!", or "Run, donkey!", as a nod to the grape's hardy vine and steady productivity even in a difficult vintage. The best examples, such as this offering from Leone de Castris, have bright high-toned red notes up front, over dark, plush palates and a whisper of clove and licorice spice.
