Sordo represents 3 generations of Piemontese winemaking in the town of Verduno, best known for their Nebbiolo. This drop is a lesser known variety, however, a local native called Pelaverga. It shares that rose petal florals and bright, vibrant fruit with Nebbiolo, but without any of the tarry darkness and tannic grip. It also has the peppercorn spice character you'll find in most good Syrah, courtesy of a gene mutation that produces rotundone. However, it's less cracked black pepper and more pink peppercorn, pithy, zingy and vibrant. Sordo has crafted a beautiful benchmark for this underdog grape, and is well worth a spot on your next dinner table.
