Palacios is one of Valdeorras' foremost producers, producing a remarkable expression of Godello that is nearly unparalleled in quality. For the uninitiated, Godello is a grape that lends itself to subtlety and minerality, not unlike a premier cru Chablis or, though with more intensity of fruit and beeswax note similar to some Chenin Blanc. The As Sortes exemplifies the best of these qualities, a stunning reflection of the older vines, grown in granitic sand at around 680m elevation. The wine itself offers notes of ripe green pears, river stone and a textural richness reminiscent of cashew cream. A great wine for a white burgundy lover.
