Making his name initially at Martinborough stalwart Dry River, winemaker Wilco Lam is onto the second release of his personal project, Oraterra, carrying with him the title of Best NZ Winery which was awarded after his inaugural release. Following two consecutive cool years in Martinborough, the vines produced very few bunches in 2024, ripening gloriously across the warm, dry year. In the glass, the stylistic throughline from first release to current is evident - velvety texture and aromatic finesse is abundant - though the 2024 shines even brighter. Hedonistic notes of cherry and Chinese five spice swim across the palate, seamlessly unfolding into firm yet elegant structure.
