Winery Notes - "This comes from the solera of manzanilla Zuleta. This wine begins as Manzanilla and therefore has a biological aging in a first phase, but after losing the characteristic layer of flor yeast it undergoes an oxidative stage. 100% Palomino variety, with about 8 or 9 years of aging in American oak casks, using the traditional Criaderas & Solera system.
It is clean and bright with an intense golden color. With very intense nose and nuances of biological … more

Bottled, December 2021. Fantastic value Manzanilla, and a great introduction to the dry end of Spanish Sherry. Light, flinty, salty, a little herbal (chamomile) with the tang of sea air that defines the manzanilla style. Bottled in screwcap & with the bottling date in English on the back. Delicious & progressive.
"We bottle and ship fresh every two months, to ensure this definitively crisp, refreshing young white wine is always in spanky form. Camomile and oyster-shell aromatics, Chablis-like mid-palate fruit, … more

Winery Notes - "The most sought-after wine in the nooks of bodegas. It combines all the virtues of the best Amontillados on the nose and of the finest Olorosos in the mouth. It is a wine which was born by chance, the result of a mystery yet to be solved. Complex, very long equally suited for solitary meditation and lively conversation among friends."
100% Palomino variety. Initially this wine is subject to biological aging process, however, less than an Amontillado; … more

Saca de June 2022. This is the tenth release of La Bota de Manzanilla, which originates from the vineyards of Las Cañas (pagos Balbaína and Las Tablas) and La Soledad (pago El Cuadro) in Sanlúcar. It's drawn from a small selection of toneles (750-litre butts) and botas of a quality that Barquín calls "outworldly". These two-dozen or so casks have been carefully looked after by Eduardo Ojeda and his team for more than twelve years, and the wines have been … more

Saca de October 2018. This remarkable Montilla Fino is the heir to the fabled La Bota Nos. 24 and 45, and fans of those wines should not hesitate. This labelling is necessitated by the current, restrictive legislation but this is really a Fino that is moving towards being an Amontillado. Underneath, in small text, the subtitle "Un fino que va para Amontillado" translates as exactly that.
The wine is sourced from the oldest Fino solera at Pérez Barquero's Bodega Los … more

"I was really surprised by the unexpected sharpness of an new wine from Hidalgo-La Gitana, the NV Amontillado Pastrana. It is a new, single-vineyard Amontillado from a plot within Miraflores in Sanlucar de Barrameda. As with the Manzanilla Pasada from the same vineyard, this is a collaboration between Javier Hidalgo and Cristiano van Zeller from the Douro. This Amontillado is a wine averaging 30 years of age with a light mahogany color, quite bright and clear. The nose combines iron rust … more

La Guita is the only sherry produced at the bodegas Hijos de Rainera Pérez Marín in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (part of the Grupo Estévez). The name comes from the old Andalucian slang guita meaning cash (its founder was renowned for wanting to be paid in cash). The more common meaning though is string (hence guitar), highlighted by the fact that every bottle has a string around its neck.
Now owned (since 2007) by Valdespino.

Aged following a biological aging, under a veil of yeast called "flor" in the cool, humid, salty air of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a fishing town on the estuary of the Guadalquivir River. Bright yellow colour with golden reflections. This Manzanilla is laced with sea breeze scents and pleasant chamomile and flor aromas. Bone dry and light, fresh and crisp, with a hint of sea salt on the palate. Delicate and refreshing.

Sanchez Ayala are an undiscovered treat here in Australia. Much used by the Navazos project, this bodega makes some wonderful Sherries, of which this is a terrific starting point.
This is superb value.
Classic flor notes dominate the aromatics, but don't overpower the wine - there are still nuances of fresh bread, almond and saline notes. The palate is quite delicate but wonderfully fresh with excellent racy, salty flor-driven Manzanilla character.

This is a single vineyard sherry which is unusual and has the trademark fine, salty character which Manzanilla is famous for. Drink well chilled.
