Darkly spiced, meaty and featuring root vegies, and their ashy-earth. Dark-fruited and leather-edged, with a deep, pure earthiness, nutty tannin, and a delightfully controlled rusticity. Joyous Priorat Garnacha tell-tales of orange juice and ruby grapefruit perkiness are there too, with the cheeriest aftertaste. Garnacha Samsó.
A brilliant wine which is produced in Montilla-Moriles and is 100% Pedro Ximinez fruit and made in exactly the same way as the Sherry from Jerez.
This is not a 1927 vintage PX, rather the 1927 refers to when the Solera this PX is drawn from was created.

Alvear Pedro Ximénez de Añada is a vintage dated sweet wine from the estate's Pedro Ximénez vineyards. The grapes are harvested at typical levels of ripeness, and dried in the blazing Montilla sun on mats in the vineyards. The wine is vinified in open clay amphora, and fortified to halt the fermentation.
"All Pedro Ximenex that was sundried and pressed into amphora, the 2017 Pedro Ximenez De Añada reveals a deep amber/honey color as well as beautiful notes of caramelized … more

Complex citrus, with kaffir lime, lemon zest on the nose, with yuzu and grapefruit zest giving the palate subtle astringency. There's green fruit - cantaloupe, feijoa and white peach flesh. There are grassy, vegetal and herbaceous elements - asparagus, celery stalk, lemon thyme, sorrel leaf, green tea leaves and kimchi. There's the pretty florality of courgette flower and white petals in the background. This wine opens up beautifully, and fills the mouth with a soft, gentle spuma. The flavours are … more

Fermented in stainless steel and concrete and aged in in 225-litre and 500-litre French oak (which sits discreetly in the background), there's an explosion on the nose of Satsuma plum, dark, sour cherries, blackberry leaf, salted liquorice, thyme, and crushed rock. Concentrated without being remotely heavy, this has a Pomerol-like texture together with tannins that are just about perfect - firm and long, but super-velvety. It finishes refreshing and long with an intriguingly bitter, dark chocolate finish. Again, it's hard … more

OF THE 2019: "This is very much the modern face of Spain, being picked into small baskets, de-stemmed, must chilled and fermented in stainless steel. Biological viticulture, and no additions in the winery - just perfectly balanced sugar/acid/tannin in the berry which is then carefully nurtured into balanced wine. Gorgeous texture without overt fructose, perfectly savoury minerality and really good length. Oh, yeah and some really yummy fruit, too."

Crianza is a labelling term that sits one above Joven (young, unoaked), and one below Reserva (3 years ageing). You'll find great value and young drinking wines in this tier - as you'll see from Beloki. This wine is 100% Tempranillo and serves up an aromatic nose with scents of mulberries, cranberries, tobacco leaf and red earth. Tannins are supple and smooth, sliding over the palate and leaving a lingering smokiness.
This outstanding biodynamic estate is from the hills of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, above Madrid. Located in the unabashedly hot centre of Spain, soaring high hills of granitic sand keep these grapes cool and deliver a remarkable level of finesse in the wine. Juicy, fleshy fruit on the palate, underlain by velvety tannins and a fine line of stony minerality.
Good Value "state wine from this 97-year-old bodega (with interruptions). Aged in 500-litre old casks. Rich and gamey on the … more
A stand out example of pure Tempranillo organically grown in Spain's Rioja.
Soft and mineral, a delicious mix of red and dark fruit. Open and expressive, with nutty tannins and a lick of spicy acidity, it's clearly Rioja and perfectly varietal Tempranillo. Matured in tank so the wines stays fresh and vibrant and allows the the fruit characters to fully shine through.
Dry, nutty start. Hazelnuts, brazil nuts. Umami notes of beef stock and dried mushrooms. On the other end of this earthy, darker side there is a brightness of bitter oranges and fresh figs. A bit of toffee and echoes of spices (not unlike gingerbread, really nice).
On the palate it is medium-bodied, with a surprising lightness and ease to it. Good balance of acidity, a suggestion of caramel sweetness, lightly bitter notes (dried herbs, Seville oranges) and a soft, gingery … more
