In an era where wines with a touch of sweetness are considered taboo, L'Anima takes the risk and turns it on it's head. Made in the ancient Passvm style (aka Passito), individual berries are painstakingly sorted by hand onto racks, where they remain for 6 weeks, slowly drying in the sun and gentle sea breeze. A far cry from the sticky McLaren Muscat's of yesteryear, this aperitif style Muscat is unfortified and eminently drinkable. It's fresh and fragrant, highlight Muscat's exuberance and exotic notes, yet tamed with freshness and a distinct edge of salinity that makes it moreish and light on the palate.

An ode to the sweet muscats of Pantelleria and the commune of Noto in Sicily’s southeastern tip. Not many youthful brands make sweet wine, but here we are. Sweet does it no justice, though. There’s plenty of sugar, but there’s a savoury airiness to it, too - it cloys not. Nutty and saline, with ample orange things; candied rind, orange blossom water, cumquat jam, orange bitters - membrillo, frangipane, gingersnaps, straw, an ozone-like beachy note and just the right level of prickly lift. It’s light on its feet, complex, vibrantly fresh and thoroughly delicious. What a debut for L'Anima - every wine a winner
