From the North-West of Tasmania, just sideways of Launceston, lies the glorious winery of La Villa. It's got a real Mediterranean-meets-Tassie vibe, with a terracotta tiled roof atop the main house. The wines, however, are undeniably Tasmanian. Their chardonnay has a distinct tropical feel to the fruit, but stops short of too-ripe thanks to distinctly cool-climate freshness in the acidity. Spice and toast from some well-handled oak aging makes for a well balanced experience in the glass.
