Jacques Prieur Montrachet Grand Cru 2019
From a 0.59-hectare parcel. Very sunny, mid-slope, perfect drainage. East/southeast exposure. Thin, stony soil, higher in sodium. Outcrop of white marl. The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates, then whole bunches are pressed in a pneumatic press. The juice is cold settled after pressing for 12 to 14 hours. Alcoholic fermentation and ageing are 100% in new oak barrels. Full MLF. Élevage of 22 months.

Domaine Jacques Prieur have two little plots, one in the Dents de Chien sector, the other more central on the Chassagne side. The former planted at 14,000 vines/ha. They picked them on 12th September, which is early in the schedule for this vineyard. We had to get in there smartish, says Nadine. Luxurious glowing deep primrose. This certainly has all the luxury character of this great vineyard, a really significant level of density over and above the Chevalier-Montrachet. Ripe mirabelle, some passion fruit, as much in texture as in aromatics, very complete, and exceptionally long. Bravo! This will not be bottled until July 2021.

Once again there is a whiff of the exotic to the white and yellow peach, passion fruit, apricot and floral aromas that are also trimmed in soft wood nuances. There is excellent volume and concentration to the big-bodied and overtly powerful and muscular flavours that deliver excellent persistence on the almost tannic finish. This is clearly built to age and while it perhaps doesn't quite have the refinement it usually does, it is most impressive all the same.
