The Pichot family is one of the oldest in Vouvray with origins as restaurateurs going back to 1739, followed by the purchase of the Coteau de la Biche vineyards in 1770 establishing them as growers to help supply the restaurant!
The Clos St Mathurin vineyard, comes from within the Première Côte site of Le Marigny. It is made in the méthode traditionnelle, with primary fermentation in 70% stainless steel and 30% in 400 litre used barrels, followed by two years maturation on fine lees in bottle & is zero dosage. The result is a very fine, crisp and beautifully composed sparkling Vouvray. Medium-bodied with a lovely fine mousse, it drinks very well as an aperitif, but also has the intensity of classic Chenin Blanc characters to accompany a wide range of dishes throughout the meal.
