A brilliant offering from the Mentzelopoulos family, once again their gifted manager, Paul Pontallier, has produced an uncommonly concentrated, powerful 2009 Chateau Margaux made from 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. As with most Medocs, the alcohol here is actually lower (a modest 13.3%) than most of its siblings-. Abundant blueberry, cassis and acacia flower as well as hints of charcoal and forest floor aromas that are almost Burgundian … more

This well-known, large (over 250 acres) Chateauneuf du Pape estate has produced some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes I have ever tasted, including their 1949 (one of the top 25 wines of my lifetime), 1955 and 1961. This visit was the first time I have had a chance to taste these wines in many years, and it appears a younger generation is making a comeback with their offerings from Lirac and Chateauneuf du Pape.
An exceptionally strong effort, the … more

"Our white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is attractive when young within 2 or 3 years following the harvest, if you are looking for the wines to be fragrant, fruity and elegant. Lovers of more mature white wines should wait another five years or more until our wines develop their secondary aromas: honey,
white truffle and reminiscent of acacia." - From the producer.

The Blanc twin to one of our longstanding best sellers. This is a slluightly savoury blend of primarily Viognier, with lesser amounts of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. It shows stonefruit - peach and apricot courtesy of the Viognier dominance, and tropical fruit to follow. It's vibrant and quite textural presence, with moderate acidity making for a refreshing finish.

Cotes du Rhone is usually a blend of grenache, mourvedre and shiraz which is spicy, medium-bodied and satisfying. This one certainly meets the criteria.

From vineyards located just across the river from Chateauneuf du Pape on sandy soils this wine shows the perfumed and supple side of Grenache grown on sandy soils. Kirsch, ground pepper, leather and garrigue all flow to a mid-weight wine that’s perfect for drinking over the coming 3-4 years.

'The opaque blue/purple-colored 2011 Palmer reveals a stunning bouquet of licorice, truffles, camphor, spring flowers, black raspberries and black currants. One of the superstars of the vintage, this brilliant 2011 possesses superb concentration and purity, medium to full body, and remarkable length of close to a minute. A tour de force in winemaking, the Palmer team merits accolades for achieving this level of quality in a more challenging vintage than either 2009 or 2010. The wine of the vintage in … more

"The stunning, ripe dark berries and plums on the nose are attractively dressed and deliver a wealth of assertively rich and juicy dark-fruit flavors on the palate, in balanced and elegant yet powerful style. The best Réserve de la Comtesse for some time. Second wine of Château Pichon-Lalande." James Suckling

Beautiful, already intense, golden colour. The nose presents a delicate woodiness followed by notes of honeysuckle and acacia flowers. The palate rapidly becomes full-bodied and generous, mingling notes of residual sugar and freshness. The fruit is discreet but the balance is perfect. The finish is long and lingering, accompanied by a hint of bitterness, that helps to enliven the flavours.
