Descendientes de José Palacios (DJP) is one of three estates of the family of Alvaro Palacios. The 'descendientes' are Alvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Perez Palacios, both of whom grew up in the area of Rioja. The estate began when they identified very old plantings on Mencía on the high mountainous slopes of Corullón, which they have in subsequent years renovated the vineyards and refined their approach to vinifying Mencía.

This particular bottling comes from the Las Llamos plot, a mountainous plot over minerality slate soil that sits somewhere between 600-1000m in altitude. The wine itself is elegant and profound, perfumed with violets and sweet spice. The palate is vibrant, evoking red and black cherries, wild herbs and smoky minerality, accompanied by fine grained tannins and bracing acidity.
