Winery Notes - "The Eden Valley sits high in the Barossa ranges, above the floor of the Barossa Valley. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty punctuated by ancient Red Gums with patches of vines hidden amongst undulating grazing land. Exposed reefs of moss-covered metamorphic rock hint at what lies beneath the soil's surface. Vines growing in this shallow rocky soil produce fine flavoured Riesling with a mineral purity that comes from vine roots pushing through cracks in submerged rock to find water and scarce nutrient.
Our Eden Valley Riesling has three vineyard components, our own Golden Gate Vineyard in Flaxman Valley, the Stephens family also in Flaxman Valley and the Angas family in Keyneton. At Golden Gate we've been gradually transitioning the Riesling from permanent arm to rod and spur which promotes fresh wood to grow the annual crop. We are using the strong, established root system to encourage abundant, healthy new canes which produce the fruit. These young canes also help us manage the canopy, producing the right amount of open foliage to reduce risk of mildew or botrytis.
We prefer to release our wines with complexity, palate weight and softness that comes from maturation on light yeast lees."
