This ultra-rare wine, named after François' grandfather, was produced exclusively from the oldest vines in the Clos de Vougeot, planted in 1910; the same vines that gifted the vast majority of the fruit for the Vieilles Vignes. The BIG difference here is that only the first bunch on the first shoot of each vine was harvested and added to the fermenter. These first bunches, being furthest from the apical bud (and closest to the trunk), are smaller, on less vigorous shoots, and produce intensely flavoured juice. It is something completely unique, the essence of the Clos de Vougeot.
The first vintage of Hommage was produced in 2010 and was initially designed to be a one-off to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of this plot of vines. It was such a success that this is now released whenever the quality of the vintage allows. Only 900 bottles of the 2019 were produced in total.

"Even more reserved than the Vieilles Vignes bottling, the 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Hommage à Jean Morin unwinds in the glass with notes of plums, smoky berry fruit, rich soil tones, spices, orange rind and cherries. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and textural, with prodigious reserves of fruit and rich, powdery tannin. Lively and perfumed, I can't wait to revisit it in bottle." 95-97 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Five-star wine. "About 900 bottles. Imperial purple. The nose is remarkably lifted and gives far greater intensity than the other two cuvées. More floral though that word does not describe the intensity. This really does have everything that the terroir can offer. Little touches of tannin behind, but a wealth of fruit to surmount it." 96-98 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
