"Henri Le Roy began his career as a Biologist in Paris but soon realized his true passion was wine. In early 2004, he pursued that dream, seeking land to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on the Cote D'Or. With Burgundian land prices being sky high, he turned to the Jura - a region with ancient soils and mountains for cross-country skiing, a personal hobby. Henri settled in and focused not on Jura's traditional veil-aged wines, but on the ouille (topped-off) style, preserving freshness and vibrancy in a Burgundian spirit. He named his estate Domaine de l'Aigle à Deux Têtes ("Two-Headed Eagle") after the Habsburg dynasty that once ruled the region. With just 5 hectares under vine, the domaine farms three exceptional plots: Derrière de la Roche, where 80-year-old Chardonnay vines grow in prized Jurassic Marne Bleu soils, and Clos Les Clous in Vincelles, home to Poulsard and Savagnin vines over 100 years old. Henri's most prized site is Vernambaud, a magical plot just outside the village of Grusse. It consists of two isolated parcels surrounded by forest. One belongs to Domaine des Miroirs (the famed Entre deux Bleus vineyard); the other is Henri's. With soils rich in blue marl and naturally low yields, this site produces wines of rare precision and depth. He continues to expand thoughtfully, with all estate wines fermented using indigenous yeasts and aged in barrels in his humble cellar." - Importers Notes
