There are few sites in the winemaking world quite as breathtaking as the terraced hills of the Rhône Valley. It’s strenuous work to farm, the slopes in Hermitage alone sit anywhere from 40 to 60% rise and are perforated by granite outcrops which snarl up at the vines like fangs. It’s a wild and unpredictable region, making it all the more remarkable that producers like Delas-Freres are still making wine there. Yet, with 100 years under their belt, they’ve tamed the beast that is Rhône, producing some of the region’s most exceptional wines.
