Halliday Review 96 Pts
"A blend of 58/24/8/5/5% grenache blanc/roussanne/ grenache gris/bourboulenc/clairette. Some grenache and clairette on skins in concrete eggs for 120 days, the remainder whole-bunch pressed to egg; 59% skin contact in the final blend. Organic/biodynamic. The skin contact provides meaningful detail to this, but in a quiet way, gently tugging the palate with a pumice-like texture, shaving off overt fruitfulness and layering in savoury flavour. Dried pear, poached apple, quince, ground ginger, beeswax, lemon barely water and … more

"From 1946-planted vines in Block 30, adjacent to the High Sands Block; destemmed, crushed and fermented in 675L ceramic eggs; pressed after about 150 days then returned to the eggs for a total of 14 months' maturation. Taut and sinewy, both a function of making and the year that was, this is a coiled spring of dried flowers, cranberry, raspberry leaf tea, cherry, pomegranate and dusty white pepper spicing. The pedigree of place, venerable vines, impeccable … more

"From Block 12 on a southeast-facing sandy ironstone outcrop; 15% whole bunches, the rest crushed; matured in French and Austrian foudre for 18 months. A very Rhône-like release this, with peppery spicing, blackberry pastille, moody blue florals, lavender, blueberry, cocoa powder and freshly ground star anise. The elegance here is admirable, with a tannin drive from front to back, and no sweet spot. A very fine release."

Winery Notes "A beautiful, deep red in colour. Perfumed and seductive with alluring floral notes, red licorice, blackcurrant and dark cherry aromas. The palate is delightfully refined and balanced with generous, dark red cherry fruit merging into ironstone tannins. This is a full-bodied wine of great balance, style and defined fruit characteristics with a long, lingering tannin profile. A very elegant Signature" Matured for 19 months in 23% new Hungarian hogsheads, French barriques and hogsheads.

Dark cherry red with a crimson hue. Elegant and inviting aromas of cedar and chocolate combine beautifully with rich, ripe cassis and violets. Sublime tannins give the drinker an insight into the agebility of this wine. Excellent drinking now and it will continue to evolve and delight. Decant and enjoy with char-grilled rib eye on the bone or porcini risotto.

Yalumba is extremely fortunate to have access to some of the oldest Grenache vines in the Barossa, sourcing fruit for this wine from vines planted betweem 1898 and 1973. The nose is saturated with fragrant scents of plums and cherries, and softly overripe raspberries, while the palate shows definition and concetration in its structure. Richly textured and roundly supple, the plumpness of the palate is held together with a fine frame of velvet tannins.

Winery Notes - "Amber tawny in colour with an olive green hue, exhibiting aromas of rich toffee and caramels, sweet figs, chocolate, caramel and licorice spices with elegant brandy spirit and hints of nutty wood aged complexity. The palate is richly flavoured featuring caramel crème brûlée with fine spirit characters and lingering flavours of dried fruits and nuts. The texture is sweet and smooth with roundness from the wood maturation and brandy spirit filling out the middle palate, providing the … more

"DW U15 Polish Hill River. One of the best Leonays for some years. Not every maker got the acidity right in this vintage, wonderful quality awaiting those who did, as you'll find here. Its lime leaf aromas and tinkling acidity are the marks of a wine with a great future." 95 Points - James Halliday

Winemaker Notes "Our first Shiraz under Wind River; this wine is fruit forward and bold. Although they hail from the same vineyard, she is a more conventional expression of variety than her cousin Viceroy Syrah. The fruit is picked at peak ripeness and with gentler acid. The finished wine is slurpy and approachable, a delicious example of cool climate Shiraz. This single-vineyard classic is packed with blue fruit and supple, savoury tannin. It is a proud representation of it Wind … more

Winemakers Notes "2023 was a wet and cold vintage. The cooler season provided the perfect opportunity to make a sparkling Riesling in the Traditional Method/Sekt style. Grapes picked on 5th April. Partially whole bunch pressed, light pressing, all free run juice. Fermented in old French puncheons and kept on gross lees for 3 months. 13 months on lees in bottle adds subtle complexity, the dosage of 4 g/L balances perfectly with the higher acid from the cooler season. Savoury, brioche … more
