The Perrin Family get this blend of Grenache and Cinsault from the southern tip of the Rhone Valley.
In the typical Rhone style the wine is dry, savoury and very complex.

This is a Vins doux Naturel style, made from Muscat à Petits Grains.
The fermentation is stopped when half of the sugar in the must is converted into alcohol by adding neutral alcohol. This has the effect of maintaining the sweetness from the sugar in the wine.
The nose is beautifully aromatic and fresh evoking ripe peach, apricot and grape nuances; the fortification is first class as it is barely noticeable, the wine is loaded with delicate florals and elegance. … more

55% Grenache, 18% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre, 10% Cinsault and 5% Carignan, from Yannick Alliaud’s 50 year old vines in Châteauneuf de Gadagne, just 20km south of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Gaillard has captured that perfect balance of hedonistic opulence and mineral refreshment in a way that only Condrieu can produce. His pared back winemaking style provides the perfect canvas for the wine to paint its own picture on, one of ripe yellow peaches, summer honeysuckle blossoms and fragrant spice.

From terraced vineyard planted in 1975 on light sandy granitic soils above the winery. 100% destemmed. Maceration and fermentation in stainless steel then elevage for 18 months in a mix of 400 litre barrels and barriques 30% of which are new. Yield 35hL/ha.
"Even bigger, richer and more concentrated, the inky purple/blue-tinged 2015 Saint Joseph les Grisieres is the top wine of the estate and is raised in barrel. Blackberries, blueberries, pepper, earth and a liqueur of rocks-like quality all … more

Raspail-Ay was founded in 1854 with 18 hectares under vine planted to Grenache (80%) Syrah (15%) and Mourvedre (5%) proprietor Dominique-Ay keeps things pretty simple at Gigondas' finest address - one red and one rosé. The Gigondas reflects the appellation's characteristics faithfully in an elegantly robust style which needs four or so years for the tannins to meld with the wine.
Dense and concentrated with dark fruits, pepper and spices with a gamey note, there is also a stony mineral … more

"Dark red robe. The bouquet has a comfortable depth, with the promise of opening and variety; there is a mass of black berry fruits for now. The palate has a suave tone, a cosy middle, carries gourmand appeal, the fruit on mixed red and black berries, a spur of freshness in the ferrous tannins. It's wild in a good way on the second half, has character, the length nicely sustained. From late-2024." John Livingstone-Learmonth, Drink Rhône

This well-known, large (over 250 acres) Chateauneuf du Pape estate has produced some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes I have ever tasted, including their 1949 (one of the top 25 wines of my lifetime), 1955 and 1961. Typically a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 8% Mourvedre and 2% Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin and Vaccarese fully destemmed aged half in barrique and half in vats.

The Durand brothers, Eric et Joël, specialize in Syrah planted over 20 hectares in St-Joseph, St-Peray and Cornas. Thye destem nearly all fruit, depending on the vintage with a mixture of oak and concrete ageing. Unlike a lot of Cornas their wines are fruit-dense, have vibrant freshness, vibrancy and brightness and are typically rich and spicy.
"More density and depth, as well as precision, emerge from the 2020 Cornas Empreintes, a smaller
production cuvée from 30-year-old vines. Its deep purple … more

This well-known, large (over 250 acres) Chateauneuf du Pape estate has produced some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes I have ever tasted, including their 1949 (one of the top 25 wines of my lifetime), 1955 and 1961. This visit was the first time I have had a chance to taste these wines in many years, and it appears a younger generation is making a comeback with their offerings from Lirac and Chateauneuf du Pape.

"From a cooler parcel of pure granite soils, the 2018 Cornas Les Eygats is probably the most classic Cornas in the lineup (although these all have plenty of Cornas character) with its more mineral, iron, and almost bloody style. Loaded with massive amounts of blue and black fruits, violets, and crushed rock nuances, this full-bodied, multi-dimensional, seamless Cornas has polished tannins, flawless balance, and a monster of a finish. This broad, expansive, sexy Cornas should drink well for 20+ years." … more
