| Bodegas Roda Situated in Spain's flagship region, Rioja, there is no doubt that this winery is set up with quality as the number one objective. With dedication and attention to detail in mind, everything is closely scrutinised and meticulously planned out, from image and labels to wine making and, most importantly to Roda, viticulture.
All fruit comes off vineyards in excess of 30 years old (some up to 80 years), from a mixture of sandstone and clay/limestone soils, and grown using bio-dynamic methods. Fermentation takes place in Seguin Moreau foudres and the wines are aged in French barrels, with a minimum of oxidative handling, and are neither filtered nor fined. Roda's concern is to make plush, violet-velvet wines with rich fruit and full, soft tannins pushing to the margins of the fruit, but always contained within. The winery is built into a mountain and is a gravity-fed free run operation. Significantly, each vintage is made on its merits. Roda only produces three wines and they begin at the Reserva level. (Reserva, by appellation, means a wine has been aged for 3 years with a minimum of 1 year in oak, before release.)
