No chance to mistake this, with its abundance of darker things; stock, porcini, graphite, smoke and black cherry. Under this very typical Serralunga 'tarry/earthy' mantle though, are other complexities of dried roses, orange and spices. The firm and enlivening structure of a great Serralunga is here to underpin all this. Strong black tea tannins at present. All components are here.

"Bricco Giubellini is easily the most exciting young Barolo producer I have tasted for some time."
Antonio Galloni
Established in 2000 by Maria Bianucci and Gigi Garanzini, Bricco Giubellini is the highest vineyard in Monforte d'Alba at 530 metres and the smallest single vineyard at just 0.33 hectares. The wines, made by our friend Fabio Fantino, have until recently only been available locally - locally, as in the village of Monforte! We liked the wines so much we bought the … more
A true baby-Barolo... This comes from declassified, mostly young vine fruit from the great Castiglione Falletto Crus of Bricco Boschis, Codana and Pernanno, so it is a wine that could legitimately be labelled as Barolo.
Cropped at a yield of around 38 hl/ha, the grapes were fully de-stemmed and fermentation occurred with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation was in cement tanks during the spring following harvest and the wine was then aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak botti. It was … more
'The Barolo Cannubi is absolutely gorgeous in 2017. Hot and brutally dry conditions notwithstanding, the Cannubi is creamy and sensual in the glass, with impeccable balance, soft, racy edges and tons of allure. It is easily one of the most sensual, compelling Barolos of the year. Ripe dark red/purplish fruit, spice, mint and cedar meld into the beautifully textured, resonant finish. I am so impressed with the wine's freshness. Perhaps the anti-hail netting helped keep some shade on the fruit. … more

The 2017 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, dried herbs, scorched earth, spice and leather add to an impression of gravitas. This is an especially somber, potent Barolo that needs time to soften. Even so, it will always be a brute. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty. The Barolo Mosconi emerges from the estates oldest vines, which are 70-80 years old, and is aged in barrique. 95 points, Antonio Galloni
'Baudana, one of the great crus of Serralunga. Importer: CellarHand
Toasted hazelnut, liquorice and mint, dark cherry, dried rose and spice, leather and black tobacco. Full-bodied, bold and dark fruited, distinct hazelnut character to taste, lavish stony tannin, sweet slightly toasty fruit, roasted red capsicum, balanced acidity, a firm 'mineral' character, maybe some warmth though it feels generous rather than overt, spiced biscuit, and excellent length of flavour. Powerful. The vineyard is giving it loads here. Hello!'

'Cerretta, one of my favourite vineyards, with maybe 13 or so producers knocking out something from this cru. Interesting year is 2017, chewy, ripe, not the quality of say, 2013, 2015, or 2016, but still of merit. Of the coming vintages, 2018 will be finer and more bony, though 2019 will perhaps be the one to watch. Importer: CellarHand
Pretty ripe offering here, sooty, dark plum and red berries, new leather and menthol. Full-bodied, liquorice and stewed plum, firm graphite … more

14.5%, a blend of fruit from 30% La Morra's Rive, 30% Castiglione Falletto's Scarrone, & 40% Serralunga's Baudana & Broglio. Aged in new 75-85HL Gamba botti for 26 months. The nose has real presence, is highly aromatic with strawberry kirsch and lifted cherry fruits, white stone mineral notes and sandalwood spice. This Barolo is fresh with a capital 'F'. The palate is vibrant and filled with energy, lots of juicy red fruits and silky, ripe and super-fine for Barolo tannins. … more
14.5%, this is a characteristic 14 vintage for us. A vintage not given anywhere near enough air-time, this is a perfect example of how beautiful it can be. Compact and focused with crunchy red-fruited purity, cranberries, currants, wild strawberries with perfumed talc notes and a suggestion of mandarin peel - super enticing with a precision of frame, underlying minerality and beautiful freshness.
For all who criticized the 2014 vintage across the board, this is a great counterpoint. Opening with enticing … more
Barolo Brunate has a magnificent garnet-red color with intense ruby-red reflections, of correct intensity and tonality. The nose is composite, rich, full and persistent, with hints of vanilla, sweet spices, tobacco, mountain hay and underbrush. Impressive taste sensations reveal the wine’s imperious, noble, warm and velvety character, and the flavor is long and intense.
