A brilliant wine which is produced in Montilla-Moriles and is 100% Pedro Ximinez fruit and made in exactly the same way as the Sherry from Jerez.
This is not a 1927 vintage PX, rather the 1927 refers to when the Solera this PX is drawn from was created.

Pérez Barquero, D.O. Montilla-Moriles. A limited release of 3,000 bottles (for the world), this P.X. is a nod to the past when Pedro Ximénez was often a vintage wine and released young without extended ageing, nor the resulting rancio characters that such maturation brings. This wine comes from late-harvested P.X. grapes from one of Montilla's best vineyards. Fortification is carried out only with top-quality, wine-based spirits. After 18 months resting in the traditional, large, cone-shaped 'amphora' of the type used … more

21% ABV. "My favorite of the two Amontillados is the 1951 Amontillado Selección a rare, single-vintage Amontillado produced with Pedro Ximénez grapes as is the norm in Montilla-Moriles. It's a bright mahogany color with an amber-green tint that reveals pharmaceutical notes and balsamic, with roasted, charred aromas and a sweetish palate that retains the sharpness expected in this kind of wine. It is lacking a bit in the mid-palate before ending with a slightly bitter, tarry finish. This is completely … more

17.5% ABV. "The oldest of the sweet wines I tried this time was the 1958 Don PX Convento Selección, a very complex and nuanced wine with notes of charred wood, tar, coal, bitter dark chocolate, licorice, roasted coffee beans and aromatic herbs. The palate is compact with no fissures and a bitterness that compensates the sweetness (it has 350 grams of sugar, so it's not a surprise that it doesn't feel as sweet as others). It's relatively dense, complex, rare … more

"Small lots of old vintages are released following no apparent logic, like this 1965 Don PX Seleccion, which is produced with white Pedro Ximénez grapes but it's black rather than white, bottled in June 2014 with 290 grams of residual sugar. It has a nose of pure curry, aromas of an Indian restaurant, very balanced, not as sweet as others, in fact it's more bittersweet than sweet, combining the spices with bitter chocolate and with very good acidity that makes … more

"Going up the ladder of age, concentration, complexity (and price), the 1968 Don PX Seleccion aged in American oak butts for some 47 years before bottling, and was never blended with any other vintage. The wine has 340 grams of unfermented sugar and higher acidity given its age, as evaporation in barrel concentrates everything. This is somehow less dense and more pungent than the other old sweet wines, with more spices, lots of cinnamon and cocoa powder. It's more fluid, … more

17% ABV. "The 1980 Don PX Selección is said to come from a warm and dry year that favored the raisining of the Pedro Ximénez grapes. This has lots of candied fruit and spice and combines the 17% alcohol with a whopping 340 grams of residual sugar. This aged in American oak butts until its bottling in September 2018. It surprised me with a complex and somewhat savory nose, reminiscent of bitter chocolate, licorice and roasted coffee, carob beans and … more

"The 1973 Don PX [Cosecha Vieja] is part of a new range of more accessible old wines, not as extreme as the Convento or Convento Seleccion ranges of extremely old wines. This is slightly lighter in the palate with a little less sugar, some 320 grams per liter. The vineyards that produced these grapes do not exist today; they were on very soft marls soils. The dehydrated grapes fermented between 3% and 9% and then the wine was fortified and … more

From a solera approaching a century in age, this rich yet elegant dry Oloroso averages fifteen years old and displays a round, velvety texture and a long nutty finish. Non-fortified, the overall impression is one of harmonious depth and freshness. On the nose there are hints of caramel, toasted almonds, and apricots. The palate is mellow and super-complex, with lively acidity and balmy flavours of spice, quince and lacquered wood notes. Perfect to drink on its own or together with … more

22% ABV. "The 1964 Palo Cortado Marqués de Poley Selección was aged in a solera system of which 50 botas remain. It's a very old fortified wine produced with Pedro Ximénez grapes, aged in well-seasoned American oak barrels. It is full-bodied, which hints at an Oloroso origin, and has the aromas of a very old wine with rusty nail, saltpeter, low tide, phosphor and matchstick notes with a volatile twist. Wines like this are not meant to be consumed by … more
