A blend of Tesseron's sublime stocks of Grande Champagne Cognac distilled in the 1950s and aged for two generations in Limousin casks. Here the Grande Champagne terroir really comes into its own, with layer after layer of rich, hedonistic wave of roasted nuts, mixed peel, raisins, dark chocolate and wild honey notes. For all its mouth-coating richness and intensity, it has a knock-out pillowy texture, perfect spirit integration and some super-complex rancio notes on the long finish.

"Cool, pure and elegant aromas are comprised by notes of essence of green apple, a panoply of spice elements, mineral reduction and plenty of citrus nuances, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to mention. The very rich, full-bodied and markedly powerful flavors coat the palate with dry extract while the firm acid spine preserves the excellent delineation on the austere and intense citrusy finale. This too would benefit from … more

More subtle though still prominent oak can be found on the much more reserved red currant and dark berry-suffused nose that displays an astonishing array of spice, exotic tea and soft earth aromas. There is better energy as well as more evident minerality on the sleek and sophisticated flavors that deliver superb length and depth on the balanced finale. This is a powerful but classy effort that, very much like the Le Corton, is going to need a long stay … more

"The icon is in dangerously seductive form. Such pristine dark cherries, blackberries and dark plums, dark chocolate, finely crushed spices and plenty of crushed dark stones on offer. The palate is very intense, very slick and fine tannins deliver an almost playfully soft impression. The oak is super integrated. Like La Maison Bleue, this approachability is an aberration, as it has immense power, concentration and length with such regal and alluring swagger at the finish. But there is so much … more

An attractively fresh nose is comprised by notes of both red and dark currant, earth and a whiff of oak. The medium weight flavors possess reasonably good underlying tension and complexity though the finish, while reasonably persistent, is slightly drying. There are aspects to admire but it would be fair to say that the balance isn't quite completely dialed in. In sum, this is good but … more

"Once again the wood treatment is perceptible though it remains sufficiently subtle to not interfere with the appreciation of the very ripe aromas of roasted plum, cassis, violet and lovely array of exotic spice elements. The surprisingly full-bodied flavors are bigger than what is typical for RSV yet though the extra size and weight does not significantly compromise the refinement of the serious, mouthcoating and lingering finish where the only nit is noticeable warmth. While not quite as structured as … more
